Dr Muhammad (Mo) Maarj (he/him)
PhD, B Pod - Podiatrist
Dr Mo brings over a decade of experience in sports and paediatric podiatry, with a particular passion for the assessment and management of hypermobility-related foot and lower limb conditions. He completed his Bachelor of Podiatry, with clinical placements internationally in Singapore and London, before going on to complete a PhD focused on improving outcomes for children with hypermobility. Read his thesis here.
Mo is a member of the Ehlers-Danlos Society International Consortium, where he collaborates regularly with international experts in hypermobility and contributes to ongoing research into connective tissue disorders. He has presented at international conferences, including the EDS International Conference in Rome and the Australian Podiatry Conference on the Gold Coast, sharing current approaches to podiatric management of hypermobile patients.
Mo specialises in custom foot and ankle orthotics and bracing - including Richie Braces, UCBLs and other ankle-foot orthoses - providing tailored solutions for hypermobile patients. Designing orthotics for hypermobile patients requires specific considerations to avoid the side effects patients often experience when devices are prescribed without accounting for the impact of connective tissue laxity on the foot and ankle - a common oversight among practitioners who aren't specialised in this area.
Asked why he pursued research in this field, Mo's answer is simple: this patient group was being overlooked in the foot and ankle space, with little research into reducing pain and fatigue in the lower limb. He began this work because these patients deserve to walk and stay physically active without pain.
Mo is excited to bring his clinical expertise and research background to the CHA team, supporting Zebras of all ages with the specialised foot and ankle care they deserve.
